The four nominations fall into three categories: Lifetime Contribution to Volunteering, Volunteering Impact Award and Volunteer of the Year Award.

Devoted volunteer Shirley Friedrich has been nominated for her Lifetime Contribution to Volunteering. Shirley has been working in the Meals on Wheels Maroochydore kitchen for twenty-seven years. She has been a reliable team member dedicating her time to ensure the correct meals are packaged and allocated to Suncare’s Meals on Wheels customers.

Bev Wilson has been nominated for the Volunteering Impact Award. Bev is Suncare’s meal delivery driver for the Meals on Wheels service. She is committed to delivering meals to people living within the local community and goes above and beyond to train new volunteers by taking them out on buddy shifts to ensure they feel comfortable with the role.

Hilary Carne and Margaret Harrold have both been nominated for Volunteer of the Year Award.

Hilary has made an enormous impact in our community, she volunteers across three different areas of Suncare including Meals on Wheels, Community Transport, and the Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) program. Hilary is renowned for her creative thinking and willingness to learn new skills with the aim of making people’s lives better.

Margaret is a caring and loyal volunteer that befriends those around her. Margaret is a CVS volunteer and takes Maroochy Day Respite Centre customers on outings in the greater Sunshine Coast community. Margaret is always willing to offer support, she takes interest listening to people’s stories, allowing her to make a strong connection with customers.

Suncare Community Services Chief Executive Russell Mason said, “In 2020 we celebrate fifty years of providing support services to people in our community. We certainly would not have achieved this milestone without the generous support of our volunteers.”

“We are delighted by the passion all of our volunteers have, and the excellence they demonstrate every day. Suncare is privileged to have four volunteers nominated across three categories for the 2020 Queensland Volunteering Awards.”

Individually, the nominees are all very humble, they devote their time to help the wider community and they brighten our customers’ lives with their generosity and enthusiasm.

During 2020 National Volunteers Week, 18-24 May, Suncare wishes to acknowledge and celebrate the incredible work all our volunteers have been doing over the last year.”

Suncare will thank all 195 volunteers with individualised packages personally delivered by staff that encompasses a ‘thank you’ collage, letter from the CEO, certificate of appreciation and commemorative 50th anniversary hat.
