With NAIDOC Week fast approaching on 8 – 15 July, local communities are hosting a variety of celebrations. Suncare’s Nandjimadji Art Group will facilitate and attend many of the events across the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane. The following events are open to the public and everyone is welcome.
NAIDOC Family Fun Day
Suncare / Nandjimadji will host a stall at this event on 14 July. This year’s activity will be a community mural which will be donated to Carers Queensland. Nandjimadji artists have prepared the background on a huge canvas and will be available on the day to help the community add their own symbols, tracks and handprints.

Flag raising ceremonies
Carers from the Nandjimadji Art Group and Suncare staff will be attending flag raising ceremonies at the following places:
- Gympie Hospital – 4 July
- Nambour General Hospital – 6 July
- Sunshine Coast University Hospital – 13 July
- Caloundra Health Service – 18 July
- Maleny Soldiers Memorial Hospital – 19 July
Each ceremony will be held from 11:30am to 1:00pm and includes:
- Welcome to Country
- Flag raising
- Traditional food
- Cultural talks
Opening on 14 July, eight of our Nandjimadji artists are exhibiting works in the Sistas exhibition at Art from the Margins (AFTM). The exhibition showcases Indigenous women artists, or Indigenous art that celebrates Indigenous women. Along with submitted artworks, Sistas will showcase works by Marlene Wilson, winner of the St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital 2017 AFTM Indigenous Artist Award.

Caloundra Stockland Plaza exhibition
