As COVID-19 restrictions begin to ease there is no slowing down for Gold Coast retiree Alan Stevens.
Secretary of Sailability Gold Coast, Alan volunteers two days per week completing paperwork and meeting with carers to provide a safe environment for people with a disability to participate in sailing.
Managing with mobility issues himself Alan loves to spend as much time as he can out on the water.
“Four years ago I had trouble with my diabetes and my right leg was amputated which really slowed me down, and that’s when I was recommended to contact Suncare for support services,” said Alan.
“I receive a physiotherapist visit every week to help improve my leg strength and mobility around the home, and fortnightly we have a cleaner come to our house".
" Last month, Suncare organised artificial grass for the foot path that goes down the side of my house, and I can now get from my duplex to the driveaway to put the bins out without the worry of falling.”
During COVID-19 Alan and his wife, Helen have been busy pursuing their hobbies that include gardening, fishing, spending time with their grandchildren and reading.
“My wife and I have read about forty books we borrowed from the library when the pandemic began.”
With a Suncare Home Care Package, Alan continues to volunteer and enjoy his hobbies whilst receiving services to assist his mobility.
