Community organisations band together to showcase services in the Wide Bay region.

Suncare Home Care Packages in-home care for the ageing Hervey Bay office Open Day
08 November 2019

Throwing a housewarming party is one thing but hosting an office warming is quite another, but that’s just what local not-for-profit community organisation Suncare Community Services did on Wednesday 6 November.

The new office relocation was the perfect time to hold an open day event, to welcome residents and meet other service organisations in the Wide Bay area. The event took place outside Suncare Community Services located at Central Plaza Three in Pialba. TAFE Queensland and My Health for Life offered free health checks and many other community organisations showcased their assistance services to visitors on the day.

Emerging Elder Aunty Karen Hall opened the event by reflecting the long-held practice of welcoming groups who gather on Butchulla country. “As with our Butchulla community, the organisations gathered together are striving to support, work alongside and assist the elderly to live active, healthy lives as they journey through their later years.” Said Aunty Karen.

Russell Mason, Chief Executive of Suncare Community Services said, “Suncare has been delivering home care services to seniors in Wide Bay for more than 21 years. With the move to such a centrally located office, it is the perfect time to reach out to other community organisations in the area. Our aim is to connect members of the community to these services and provide opportunities for organisations to assist in making people’s lives better through a variety of services, programs and offers.”

State Member for Hervey Bay, Ted Sorensen was delighted to meet the Suncare staff at the event, “We do have an ageing population in Hervey Bay and Suncare is providing the little things that make life easier, it’s great to have them here at Central Plaza.’ Said Mr Sorensen.

Since the office relocation in September, customers and members of the public have been dropping in to meet the team. Mr Mason said, “Having such an easily accessible office means that our customers can have face to face contact if they prefer. In a world where most communication is done by phone or email; our customers enjoy meeting the administration team in person.”

“We wanted to offer the community a chance to get to know Suncare not just as a home care service provider but to find out who our people are. And what better way to do this than with a party for the locals.”

Suncare Community Services Hervey Bay is located at Shop 6, Central Plaza Three, 15 Central Avenue, Pialba Qld 4655.
