Coastal walk for reconciliation

01 June 2018

Today, the Sunshine Coast Reconciliation Group hosted the 3km Reconciliation Coastal Walk along Golden Beach.

Sponsors from Suncare, Uniting Care Community, the North Coast Aboriginal Corporation for Community Health and Life Without Barriers set up their stalls in Fraser Park, against a backdrop of golden sands looking across to Bribie Island.

Jason Bigalla, Local Service Manager from Uniting Care Community hosted the event and introduced Mark and David Peters from the Gifted Murri Unit (GMU). The brothers performed traditional didgeridoo music and then kept the children entertained with cultural games. The Lions Club of Lake Currimundi supplied a delicious sausage sizzle which tempted the attendees.

Suncare’s Business Development Manager Rob Cross shared some insight into the Nandjimadji Art Group, who had some of their traditional paintings on show.

National Reconciliation Week runs annually from 27 May - 3 June. These dates mark two milestones in Australia’s reconciliation journey: The 1967 referendum and the historic Mabo decision, respectively.
