Meals on Wheels is an iconic Australian charitable organisation which plays a major part of Suncare's 49-year history. Meals on Wheels Maroochydore first began in 1970 and to this day continues to work tirelessly to prepare, cook and deliver nutritious meals to customer's homes each day.
Sunshine Coast local Sharlene Mackay, is one of our many volunteers who dedicates her time to working in the Maroochydore Meals on Wheels kitchen. After 50 years of working in retail, Sharlene decided to devote her time to the local organisation. Sharlene has worked in many kitchens in her time, but none as organised and clean as this one.
Sharlene explains the highlight of working in the Maroochydore kitchen is the "trust that the chefs have in the volunteers to do their jobs, it makes me feel valued. The environment in the kitchen is always positive and it makes the organisation a great place to volunteer."
Meals on Wheels supports the senior community by providing a hot meal to those who may find it difficult to cook for themselves. This can also include people who are recovering from a hospital stay or illness as well as people with disabilities and their carers. The meal delivery service enables people to continue living independently in the comfort of their own home.
Each year, National Meals on Wheels Day is celebrated on the last Wednesday of August. The Meals on Wheels service would not be possible without the tremendous time and effort donated by our local volunteers. We would like to thank all our Meals on Wheels team members and volunteers.
