Whether you’re a seasonal specialist or a gardening novice, Autumn is the perfect season for growing many vegetables.
Suncare’s seasonal gardening tips provide a little extra know-how on the best produce to plant this season. So, let’s get into the veggie patch!
#1: Get your garden ready for the cooler months
As we come into the drier months, it’s important to add some compost and mulch to your garden, and use fertiliser to help build up the nutrients in the soil. These additional nutrients will support growth as we head into the cooler winter months.
#2: Know what to plant
Autumn is an ideal time for growing vegetables and small crops. Some of the best vegetables to plant in Autumn include root vegetables such as carrots, beetroot, turnips and radishes. Other fruits and vegetables which thrive when planted in Autumn include spinach, lettuce, cabbage, broad beans, tomatoes, broccoli, eggplant and capsicum.
And, don’t forget your herbs. Use pots or garden beds to plant your Autumn herbs. Autumn is ideal for growing coriander, fennel, oregano, sage and parsley.
#3: Get involved
Gardening can be a fun shared activity and does not need to involve strenuous activity. Enjoying time in the great outdoors and enjoying home grown fresh vegetables can be rewarding and good for your overall health and wellbeing.
