Facebook is a social networking website which enables you to connect and interact with family, friends and organisations you are interested in.  

It is estimated 60% of Australians are active users on Facebook, with 1.2 million users aged 65 years and over.

What you need to know

  • Facebook is free and simple to use.

  • You are in complete control of what you share, and with whom you share and connect with.

  • There are privacy settings which allow you to control who sees what you share and other information you include in your Facebook account.

  • You can unfollow anyone or any organisation at any stage if you are no longer interested in them.

  • You can create your personal Facebook account at www.facebook.com

How do I set up a Facebook account?

Setting up an account is simple all you need to do is;

  1. Go to www.facebook.com and click sign up.

  2. Enter your name, email address, password, gender and date of birth.

  3. Then, check your email to confirm your Facebook account.

Once you have an account you can post photos and updates, follow local pages, add your friends and keep in touch by sending instant messages. Think how impressed your friends and family will be!
