Once you’ve become a seasoned pro on Google, it’s time to start downloading and using Apps.

Apps (or applications) are software programs that can be downloaded to your phone, tablet or other device. Using Apps can help you to improve your overall health and wellbeing.

We have searched the internet and found seven Apps that can help you manage your health:

1. A Better Visit – Games for people living with dementia

This free iPad app features games designed to enhance communication and facilitate positive social interactions between people with dementia and their visitors. Often family members struggle to interact and engage with a family member who no longer recognises them. This application assists with engaging family members and friends to create a ‘better visit’ for everyone.

2. Dementia-Friendly Home app

This app provides carers with ideas to make their home more accessible for people living with dementia. Many of the app suggestions are small and inexpensive solutions as well as including more significant recommendations. The app is available for tablets and mobile phones.

3. Emergency +

This app helps people to call the right number at the right time, anywhere in Australia. Using your mobile phone's GPS functionality, emergency call-takers are able to access location information more easily, as determined by their smart phone. Emergency+ also includes details for SES and Police Assistance Line phone numbers to help direct non-emergency calls more appropriately.

4. MedAdvisor

A free app which connects to a person’s prescription records at pharmacies across Australia. This App makes it easier for seniors to see details of all their prescription medicines and it automatically reminds you to fill recurring scripts or visit a doctor for replacement prescriptions when required. The app also includes carer options to help family members manage prescriptions. Take the worry out of managing your scripts.

5. healthdirect

This free health app enables you to check your symptoms, find a health service when and where you need it and search for trusted health information. This app is designed by Australians and is tailored for the Australian community.

6. BrainyApp

Focused on five lifestyle categories to promote brain health including looking after your heart, physical activity, mental stimulation, diet and social activity. This app can help you rate and track your brain health to reduce your risk of dementia.

7. Clevermind

This free iPad app helps people dealing with cognitive impairments that come with problems associated with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. App features include quizzes and games, big buttons, voice command controls and a calendar interface.
