Rural and Remote Respite Service

Since January 2005 the Rural and Remote Respite Services provided through the Central Queensland Emerald and Longreach Commonwealth Carer Respite Centre Offices has been administered by Suncare Community Services Inc. Funding for the service is provided by the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing under the National Respite for Carers Program (NRCP).

The service has a particular focus on carers of people who are frail aged including people with dementia and challenging behaviour who are experiencing difficulty accessing support services because of their geographic isolation particularly in the rural and remote areas. Thus, the program is appropriately named the Rural and Remote Respite Service.
