Volunteer assistance is important for efficient running of Direct Services. We have qualified professionals to assist with advocacy, and those problems that you just can’t manage yourself. We have volunteers who assist us in many ways - shopping, etc. See the Volunteers Page for more information about voluntary assistance to this and other programs managed by Suncare Community Service.
Administration and funding
The Maroochydore Day Respite Centre is run under the auspices of the Central Sunshine Coast Committee on the Ageing and funded by a joint Commonwealth State Program and Queensland H.A.C.C. (Home and Community Care) Office Hours Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm. The Direct Services program is supported by funding from the Commonwealth National Respite for Carers Program, which is run locally under the auspices of the Suncare Community Service.
Examples of care given by this program
The program is able to assist in the following ways:
- Care for the person you care for while you take regular breaks, attend appointments or go shopping
- Care for the person you care for when you are not well.
- Information and advice regarding future planning.
- If you have to go to hospital and you have pets we can provide assistance·
- If you are caring for someone and need to take a short break stay at Dorney House and have qualified support for your ‘someone’ at home-or visa versa!
- Whatever your problem contact us we are flexible, flexible, flexible!

Respite is important.
Carers are often on duty 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They need time out to attend to other matters, other family members and above all, have time for themselves. Respite can reduce the stress of caring and assist carers to look after their own health and wellbeing.
Respite Support is most successful when it provides carers with a break as well as providing the person being cared for with a positive experience. Carers can relax if they know that the person they care for is well looked after and happy.
