Maroochydore Day Respite Care Centre

The Day Respite Centre provides a comprehensive, coordinated and integrated range of services for frail aged people, people with a disability and their Carers to enable them to be more independent at home and in the community, thus enhancing their quality of life and preventing inappropriate admission to long term residential care.

The services provided at the Centre include:
·         Day Respite Care including Podiatry, Activities Program, Outings and more….
·         Community Alternative Transport
·         Personal Care (In home)
·         Social Support

The Centre provides Day Respite to frail older people, those with disabilities and their carers where the person would benefit from socialization and interaction with other people who require support and stimulation to reduce social isolation, reduced mobility as well as many other issues which may reduce a person's ability to interact within the community. The centre also provides carers with respite from their caring responsibilities and assists them to maintain their normal daily life.

Personal Care Services are available to provide assistance in the form of assisting with self-care tasks such as personal care, mobility and dressing to the client within their own home.

People may be referred to our centre by:

  • a Community Health Nurse
  • Blue Care, St Luke's, St Vincent's, Commonwealth Respite & Carelink and other services in the community
  • a Doctor
  • a member of the Aged Care Assessment Team

Volunteer assistance is important for efficient running of Direct Services. We have qualified professionals to assist with advocacy, and those problems that you just can’t manage yourself. We have volunteers who assist us in many ways - shopping, etc. See the Volunteers Page for more information about voluntary assistance to this and other programs managed by Suncare Community Service.

Administration and funding

The Maroochydore Day Respite Centre is run under the auspices of the Central Sunshine Coast Committee on the Ageing and funded by a joint Commonwealth State Program and Queensland H.A.C.C. (Home and Community Care) Office Hours Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm. The Direct Services program is supported by funding from the Commonwealth National Respite for Carers Program, which is run locally under the auspices of the Suncare Community Service.

Examples of care given by this program

The program is able to assist in the following ways:

  • Care for the person you care for while you take regular breaks, attend appointments or go shopping
  • Care for the person you care for when you are not well.
  • Information and advice regarding future planning.
  • If you have to go to hospital and you have pets we can provide assistance·
  • If you are caring for someone and need to take a short break stay at Dorney House and have qualified support for your ‘someone’ at home-or visa versa!
  • Whatever your problem contact us we are flexible, flexible, flexible!

    Respite is important.

Carers are often on duty 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They need time out to attend to other matters, other family members and above all, have time for themselves. Respite can reduce the stress of caring and assist carers to look after their own health and wellbeing.

Respite Support is most successful when it provides carers with a break as well as providing the person being cared for with a positive experience. Carers can relax if they know that the person they care for is well looked after and happy.
