What is Recovery Australia?

Recovery Australia provides a diverse series of educational events that encourage participants to learn and discover the reality of recovery from mental illness. Recovery Australia is not a treatment program but may supplement the treatment being received by other mental health providers.

What does ‘recovery’ mean?

“Recovery is a process, a way of life, an attitude, and a way of approaching the day’s challenges. It is not a perfectly linear process. At times our course is erratic and we falter, slide back, regroup and start again. The need is to meet the challenge of the dis-ability and to re-establish a new and valued sense of integrity and purpose within and beyond the limits of the disability; the aspiration is to live, work, and love in a community in which one makes a significant contribution” P E Deegan (1988)

Who is it for?

Recovery Australia welcomes all people that experience mental illness/distress and their family and friends who live in the Sunshine Coast. Recovery Australia views that all of us need opportunities to explore the concepts of recovery within our lives and not those simply diagnosed with a mental illness. Recovery Australia  seeks to support people  who experience a mental illness and those that care for them  through the provision of recovery education events . These events comprise of one day workshops, three day recovery retreats, Recovery trails and level 2 / advanced program.
