About Meals on Wheels
The first Queensland service was established at Ipswich in 1956 by the late Mrs. Rhoda Cameron. Today, some 160 services in the State are delivering around 9000 meals each weekday, assisting people to maintain an independent lifestyle and enhancing their quality of life.
Meals on Wheels Maroochydore started operating from its present location in November 1970 and the kitchen has grown steadily to a facility that is able to process up to 250 per day.
Members of the Maroochydore Rotary Club were instrumental in starting and funding the development of Meals on Wheels Maroochydore.
The Central Sunshine Coast Committee of the Aging Inc. is the organisation auspicing Meals on Wheels Maroochydore and has recently changed the name to Suncare Community Services Inc. to embrace changes within the community.
We have six paid staff and are supported by a very willing group of volunteers.
Meals on Wheels Maroochydore currently delivers approx 200 meals each day in an area bounded by Mountain Creek in the south, Forest Glen in the west and Bli Bli in the north. If you live in another area you will be referred to the appropriate local Meals on Wheels services.
A small fee is charged for the meal and the charge of $5.80 per meal has been maintained since 2003.
Meals on Wheels Maroochydore receives a subsidy from Home and Community Care (HACC).
