Independent Living Skills program supports people with a variety of mental health issues.
Our service targets specific needs in a community setting, for individuals in a safe, non-discriminatory and non-judgmental environment.
Resilience Statement
Suncare is committed to supporting the resilience and self management of individuals and families by acknowledging, encouraging and supporting the right and capacity each individual to make choices, decisions and to take responsibility for their lives, actions and direction.
What do you do and what service do you provide?
We work together with individuals affected by mental health issues to increase active participation and independence in the day to day living in the community.
Support is provided to identify and overcome barriers which may be affecting their recovery journey.
We provide short to medium term support to assist people in:
- Building self reliance
- Regaining independence
- Improving ability to self manage
- Establishing meaningful community linkages.
Assisting with the establishment of community linkages may include things such as:
- Shopping
- Budgeting
- Education
- Employment
- Organisational and problem solving skills
- Accessing public transport
- Social activities and connections
- Independent living skills.
Who is eligible?
The program is specifically for the provision of Independent Living Skills and Social Support to adults (aged 18 – 64 years) with severe to moderate mental illness living in the community. The intention of Independent Living Skills and Social Support is to maximise an individual’s independent functioning and social competence in the community.

The Department of Communities.
