Veterans Home Care
Suncare is an approved provider for the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Veterans Home Care program. Suncare can provide In home respite, domestic assistance and home and garden maintenance where a client is assessed as eligible.
Domestic Assistance
Comprises of such tasks as household cleaning, bed making, dishwashing, assistance with washing, hanging and/or ironing clothes, unaccompanied shopping/bill paying, cleaning internal windows and assistance with meal preparation (but not total preparation of meals).
In-Home Respite
Provides a Carer with a short break for an amount of time determined by VHC. This can be approved if the veteran is the carer or the care recipient and includes social support, companionship and assistance with tasks the carer would normally perform. For other respite options including facility based respite, please contact VHC on 1300 550 450.
Home and Garden Maintenance
Entitles an eligible veteran to 15hrs per year of tasks such as replacing light bulbs, smoke alarm batteries and/or tap washers, it also includes the cleaning of external windows, cleaning gutters, ceiling fans and minor home maintenance. Garden maintenance is only approved where a hazard exists such as pruning branches that are a hazard to a walking path etc.
To determine if you are eligible, contact Veterans Home Care on 1300 550 450 and ask that Suncare be your service provider. Alternatively, you can contact the Suncare office on 5409 5994 and we can refer on your behalf.
Suncare can provide you with information on various DVA services however, we cannot approve eligibility or services. To have services approved you must speak with VHC on 1300 550 450.
Once a service is approved by VHC and then received by Suncare, the Suncare Support Facilitator will arrange an in-home assessment. This in-home assessment assists to build a good rapport between the veteran and support facilitator and in turn assists Suncare to match the veteran with an appropriate staff member.
The support facilitator will also provide information on services and conduct and occupational health and safety check of the home. Veterans also receive a fridge magnet and a quarterly newsletter which provides information on DVA issues as well as some jokes and useful information.
